Burp Suite: First 5 Things Every Beginner Should Do

Just installed Burp Suite? Here’s what to do first.

Step 1: Set Up Proxy

Configure browser to use 127.0.0.1:8080

Step 2: Install CA Certificate

Navigate to http://burp and download the certificate.

Import into browser for HTTPS to work.

Step 3: Turn Off Interception

Go to Proxy, Intercept tab. Click to turn off.

Use HTTP History tab instead.

Step 4: Learn Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+R – Send to Repeater
  • Ctrl+I – Send to Intruder
  • Ctrl+F – Find text

Step 5: Practice

Use PortSwigger Web Security Academy (free).
